The Inca Trail is a world-famous trekking route that leads to the ancient Inca city of Machu Picchu in Peru. Although the “Classic Inca Trail” spans a total of 42 KM, our Inca Trail 2D option allows hikers to enjoy the last 12 KM of this iconic trail.

Inca Trail Short Hike 2D Hotel Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco – Wiñanwayna – Machupicchu
Our hike will begin in the early morning hours with a pick-up directly from your hotel in Cusco. In our private transportation, we will head to the train station in Ollantaytambo to board our train to KM 104, the trailhead of the hike. The train ride will take approximately 45 minutes.
Once at the trailhead, we will each receive our box lunches and get ready to start our hike. Here, there will be a trail checkpoint where all travellers will be required to show the travel document and Inca Trail permit. From KM 104, you will begin a moderate climb along the Inca Trail for approximately 3 hrs until reaching the most beautiful archaeological site – Wiñay Wayna. This hike will be along stone steps. Breaks will be taken along the way for resting and better enjoyment of the surrounding lush and fauna-and-flora rich cloud forest. At Wiñay Wayna (2,650m/8747 ft), you will be amazed by the most spectacular Inca archaeological site along the Inca Trail. Seen as the ‘’small’’ Machu Picchu to many, this site will impress you with its ingenious location, a steep hillside overlooking the Urubamba River. At this site, you will see agricultural terraces, water fountains thought to have had liturgical purposes, urban sectors and others all designed and constructed in similar floor plans as other big Inca ruins. Here, you will stop to contemplate the architectural splendor over lunch. After lunch, you will continue with your hike to Machu Picchu for another 1 hr to 2hrs. This hike will be along Inca stone steps and with varying uphill and downhill sections. You will reach Machu Picchu via the famous Sun Gate or Inti Punku, where you will spend some well deserved time enjoying the views.
After our time at the Sun Gate, we will descend to the town of Aguas Calientes for dinner and our overnight stay. Over dinner, your guide will coordinate your wake-up time and pick-up logistics for the following morning.
Day 02: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco
You will have an early morning start today. Make sure you enjoy breakfast at the hotel (included) before heading up to Machu Picchu.
IMPORTANT: If you have chosen to hike to Machu Picchu from Aguas Calientes, please note that this hike will take approximately 1 hour and will be along steep Inca stairs. We recommend taking an extra set of shirt and pants, as it is like you will be soaked from the arduous uphill and humid weather. If you have chosen the bus to Machu Picchu, you will be required to line up at the bus stop, board your bus and meet your guide at the entrance of Machu Picchu.
Once at the main gate, you will line up and enter Machu Picchu as soon as the doors open (06:00 hrs). Along with your guide, you will walk around the main sector of Machu Picchu Citadel in your 2-hour guided tour. If you book either extra hike (Machu Picchu Mountain or Huayna Picchu Mountain), you will head to your self-guided hike after your guided tour. After your visit to the citadel, you will exit Machu Picchu and will take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes. Once in Aguas Calientes, you will be required to pick-up your belongings from your hotel accommodation and head to the train station for your train back to Ollantaytambo. Please know you will have enough time to grab lunch in Aguas Calientes prior to boarding your return train. You will be required to be in the train station by no later than 30 minutes prior to your train departure. In Ollantaytambo, there will be a car transfer waiting with a sign with your name on it. This car transfer will drive you back to Cusco and drop you off at your accommodation in Cusco.
