Waqrapukara Full Day
Places to visit:
Cusco – Cusipata – Santa Lucia – Waqrapukara archaeological site
Waqrapukara comes from the Quechua words of Waqra-horn and pukara-fortress. This is an archaeological located at 4,300 m/14,190 ft, in the Apurimac region in Peru. This site is known to have been built by the Qanchis culture and later taken over by the Incas. It was not until recently that this site was declared a National Cultural Heritage site in Peru. Waqrapukara is surrounded by impressive mountain ranges with snowy peaks, valleys, local communities and the Apurimac canyon, one of the deepest canyons in the world.
This is a MUST visit for those looking to visit off-the- beaten path archaeological sites and nature.

Waqrapukara Full Day Itinerary
Our tour will begin with an early morning pick up from your hotel in Cusco. In our private transportation, we will head from Cusco to the small town of Pomacanchi. The car drive of approximately 2.5 hours will have us pass by small, local towns and see beautiful natural surroundings including the Pomancachi Lake.
From Pomacanchi, we will continue in our car to the small community of Santa Lucia. It is here where we will find the trailhead to the archaeological site of Waqrapukara. The hike itself will not be long, as the distance covers a little bit over 8 KM. The trail is along gently rolling terrain.
Once inside the Waqrapukara archaeological site, we will have time to walk around the site to some of its main sectors and constructions. We will also enjoy our delicious box lunch out in nature. There will be time to take the iconic photographs with the site in the background too.
