ITINERARY

Salkantay Trail Short Hike 4D Itinerary

DAY 1: CUSCO – SORAYPAMPA – HUMANTAY LAKE – SALKANTAY PAMPA

Enjoy the views of the snow capped mountains that surround the Sacred Valley on our way to the trailhead. Once at Soraypampa, enjoy a delicious breakfast before hiking to the crystalline waters of Humantay Lake. Camp under the stars near the base of Salkantay Mountain.

Highest altitude:  3,850 m.a.s.l.

 

DAY 2: SALKANTAY PAMPA – SALKANTAY PASS – CHAULLAY 

Although the day’s hike will be challenging and long, today’s adventure will reward us with magnificent views from the Salkantay Pass, winding trails and a change in the flora and fauna.  Begin your day at high altitudes, surrounded by andean puna and rest in the lush, humid climate of the cloud forest.

Total distance:   22 km

Highest altitude:  4,690 m.a.s.l.

 

DAY 3: CHAULLAY – SANTA TERESA – HIDROELECTRICA – AGUAS CALIENTES

Now deep into the cloud forest, we will take a short ride to Hidroelectrica. From here, there will only be approximately 3 hours of hiking left to the town of Aguas Calientes. Ending on an easy note, our hike will be along the train tracks and may even give us some views of the beautifully timid Tunqui or  Rupicola peruvianus.

DIA 4: MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO 

Your visit to Machu Picchu will be in the morning hours. With a guided tour of approximately 3 hours, you will wander around the citadel’s most iconic sectors and temples. 

You will return to Cusco in the afternoon via train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo and by car to the city of Cusco.
